An Introduction

My name is Liz and I love craft beer.

In October 2015, I decided to step out of my office job as a brewery VP and fall back into the taproom, so to speak. Looking for a new way to share my love of craft beer, in March 2016 I joined the guys at Bryson City Outdoors and we built the BCOutdoors Craft Beer Department. It’s a bottle shop and taproom inside an outfitter store, because what goes better with gear than beer?! Each week I use my love and knowledge of craft beer to bring in the best local brews, national brands, and hard to find imports. We have twelve taps and keep a selection of about 50 cold bottles and cans. With around 200 different beers on the shelves, everyone is sure to find a new favorite brew, available for purchase to go. To keep me in touch with my brewery days, I show up early every two weeks to clean the draft lines. It is just as important to me, as it is to the brewers of these fine beers, that each pour tastes exactly as it’s intended.

Why should you listen to me? I have a passion for beer! In 2012, I was offered a job at a local NC brewery. Over the course of my time there I would see a lot and learn even more. From brewery merchandise to social media, marketing, production, and eventually Vice President, I was given the opportunity to see the ins and outs of the craft beer industry as a whole. I had my hands in anything and everything. My love for the craft, art, and science of beer inspired me so I began photographing and writing about my beer experiences…or “exBEERiences”.  From the GABF to small town beer festivals, from meeting brewery owners and brewers to listening to bartenders…I learned that in the craft beer industry, there is always something to write about.

The southeast region is full of amazing breweries and I am happy to call it home. On this blog, I intend to write about my taproom experiences, the people I meet, the beers I taste, and what I learn along the way. I also look forward to having a place to reminisce about past brewery visits and beer events. I hope you’ll join me!

Cheers!
